The fierce feminine and the vulnerable masculine

As I was teaching our online yoga class today I was musing about the story of how Durga and Kali won the battle over the Demons.⁣

⁣How no man could ever win that battle. And the Gods asked the Goddess Durga for help. They needed the Goddess, the Feminine, to destroy the Demons.⁣

⁣Even Durga struggled. But she had power to manifest the fierce (and loving) Kali Ma. Kali looks scary with skulls around her neck, her skirt made of bones and blood dripping long tongue. Kali Ma slayed the Demons. To make sure they didn’t resurrect she licked the blood with her tongue.⁣

⁣The fierce feminine destroyed the Demons

⁣We all have Demons. Internal struggles highlighted by being in “retreat” (or lock down), our shadows, our pains and pasts. We perceive situations and people or institutions to be Demons too. We have the power to destroy our Demons or at least create change in how we perceive them.⁣

Yin & Yang

⁣There is an interplay between the Gods and Goddesses. The Masculine and the Feminine. The Sun and the Moon. Day and night. Yin and Yang. We need both.⁣

⁣I couldn’t help but wonder: Is this the battle we are in now? The old warfare doesn’t work. The patriarchy doesn’t work. The way our governments have focussed on money and finance doesn’t work if we can’t support the vulnerable (and how was that vulnerability created in the first place!), the support system when ill or old… When people get depressed or suffer mentally… When we have class systems and poverty.⁣

⁣We need the fierce feminine and the vulnerable masculine. We need balance within ourselves (however we identify) and in the World.⁣

⁣We are both Gods and Goddesses. The Masculine and the Feminine. The Sun and the Moon. Day and night. Yin and Yang. No matter how you identify your gender (or if you don’t).⁣
