Feeling Juicy? Ayurvedic tips

What does juiciness mean to you?

Moisture and fluidity in your joints? Expressing yourself creatively, sexually, poetically? Feeling zest and joy? Enjoying the taste, rasa, of life, your experiences and your food?

Juiciness is part of our wellbeing and health. All of the above help us to stay juicy in every way. In Ayurveda we can also connect this juice to ojas and our immunity.

I recently published a post called ‘For A Juicy Love Life: Ayurvedic Rejuvenate Post-Sex Tips” on Ayurveda Next Door. Here I offered tips on increasing your ojas – your juiciness and immunity.

Today when I went shopping at the local  shop they just got a delivery of Lychees (or Litchi Nuts). Soft to touch and that sweet tint of rose on the outside. I love them and had to get some – along with my regular vegetable shopping. There is not a lot of information on lychees and their ayurvedic properties. But as I enjoyed my first lychee I thought that this must be an ojas increasing aphrodisiac fruit.

Why? Well, apparently it is a symbol of love and romance in China. When you peel the shell off the fruit you feel its juiciness. It is fleshy and sweet. Even the white sheen seem very much like the qualities of ojas. Eating it might be messy and sticky – and perhaps even sensual!

“It is the Ojas which keeps all the living beings nourished and refreshed. There can be no life without Ojas”.

Other things you can add for some juice in your life includes:

Dates (as pictured), warm milk, ghee, almonds, oils (internally and externally), basmati rice…

Try this recipe:

Anja’s Sweet Love Pudding

  • Basmati rice 1/2 cup

  • Organic milk (cow/nut/almond) 3 cups

  • 3 Dates, fresh juicy dates cut into pieces

  • Saffron, pinch of

  • Cardamon, pinch of

  • Almonds chopped, a small handful

  • Rock candy (sweet clear sugar) or Jaggery (sugar cane) or a small pinch of sugar to taste

Optional: add a teaspoon of ghee. Accommodate to you and your lover’s taste add: coconut, cumin, cinnamon or a tiny bit liquorice powder.

Soak the chopped dates and almonds in 1 cup of milk overnight (or minimum a couple of hours).

Boil then simmer rice and remaining milk until rice is cooked (about 10 minutes). Add additional milk to make it more liquid if preferred. Add the soaked dates and nuts with the milk. Add spices and simmer for 5 minutes. Add sugar to taste. Add ghee for a bit of extra juiciness.

And finally add pleasure to your life and your experience. Create, cook, bake, play, dance, have a massage and enjoy yourself.

Let me know in the comments on how you add juice to your life.

Enjoy,

Anja
