What do you choose to eat?

The body is constituted of food. Hence one should take wholesome food only after careful examination and should not indulge in unwholesome ones out of greed or ignorance.

Charaka Samhita

This is a simply Ayurvedic fact. We have full responsibility for our body as well as our mind and emotions. What we choose to eat and drink will create how our body feels. In yoga this is our Annamaya Kosha, our food body, our physical being and our experience as a physical being.

There are no excuses of not gaining knowledge and awareness of diet, nutrition, wellbeing and even (prescribed or self-prescribed) drugs. Yes, we can get overwhelmed and there are “diets” out there that are extreme and potentially not very healthy. Balance is the key.

In Ayurveda we listen to our body and our Agni (digestive fire). If we fell hunger (true hunger) it is time to eat. When we are in balance our body will crave the tastes and textures we need. And usually it is all common sense. It’s my body, my responsibility!

Take a moment to sit quietly to listen, observe and feel: are you hungry? do you have cravings? when you eat your food to you taste it? chew it? Our body is amazing. Take time to listen to it
