Sunsets and the sacred junctions
I love sunsets.
I have the most amazing view of the (famous) Streatham sunset. But nothing beats a sunset over the ocean.
Currently I am in Venice Beach, Southern California, and staying close to the beach. I can see it from the “porch”. And it’s such a pleasure to just wander down to the wide beach, take of the shoes, feel the sand between the toes and watch the most incredible sunsets.
The light on the clouds (because today it was cloudy all day – except to make space of the sunset) and the ocean is ever changing and magical. Watching the changes are meditative, grounding and yet offers a feeling of expansiveness.
The junctions between day and night (sunrise and sunset) are referred to as Sandhya in ayurveda. Sensitive and potent junctions in the cycle of the World which have great effect on our physical, emotional and energetic being. Eating and sleeping is best avoided but devotional and meditative practise is enhanced at these points.
Watching the sunset is meditation. Mother Nature offers her sign of the junction between day and night. A time where we can offer gratitude for the day, let go of what is not longer needed, winding down to get ready for the darker evening.
So even if we don’t have a spetacular sunset, no view of the sun, or being on transport at this time we can still create our own junction and transistion to calm down and rejuvenate. Making a conscious choice of letting go of the day to be present for the more introspective evening energy.
Enjoy the sweetness and restfulness… exhale and let go.
