Pregnancy Yoga – a gentle introduction

Breath, Upper Body, Neck and Shoulder release.

It is never to late to start yoga… ever.

This applies for pregnancy yoga too.

I recently welcomed Lily to her very first yoga class at 33 weeks pregnant. For many women the first experience of yoga is indeed either during pregnancy or to support during postnatal recovery. We had a gentle introduction connecting with the breath, stretching, relaxing and learning how to move with a growing bump!

Before becoming pregnant Lily enjoyed cardio and bootcamps, not exercises that she felt gel well with a bump! She said she missed being active and wasn’t sure the best way to approach exercise with a bump, especially after taking a break due to morning sickness.

Aside from the change of becoming pregnant and growing a family, Lily Rice is also the founder of Lexie Sport. A new sports clothes company “designed by women, for women, Lexie is not ‘wear-less, go-faster’; instead providing clothing for those who are as serious about fashion as they are about their performance” which is pretty appealing to me.  A busy lady indeed. And brave enough to have her unrehearsed yoga class recorded so we can practise along with her. (As an extra bonus she brought some of her own Lexie designs for us to wear).

This first video is a great practise anytime anywhere. Seated on a few cushions, yoga bolster/blocks or even on a chair we breathe and energise our upper body, neck and shoulders. A short 13 minutes practise. We met at the beautiful studio at Light Centre in Moorgate, one of the venues where I teach pregnancy yoga classes and privates. Do check in again soon as more videos are being uploaded to the blog!
